Our group works on theoretical problems in soft condensed matter and biologically motivated physics, where our specific interests are in elastic, hydrodynamic, topological and statistical phenomena. We use both analytical and numerical tools in our research and often need large-scale parallel computation. A distinct, but technically related, research activity uses statistical learning and Bayesian inference to unravel "signal" from "noise" in data from diverse sources. Our group has a wide interest in music and develops mathematical models of musical instruments guided by a detailed appreciation of their physics.
