We research theoretical problems in the physics of soft solids and complex fluids using a combination of analytical and numerical methods. Current research interests include the hydrodynamics of active particles, the dynamics of topological defects in liquid crystals and cold atoms, the non-linear dynamics of filaments, membranes and interfaces, and glassiness in disordered solids.

We also research methods for separating "signal" from "noise" in data using statistical learning and Bayesian inference. We use these methods to analyse stochastic processes in optical tweezing and microrheology, in single and few molecule enzyme kinetics, and in epidemiology.
